Laboratory of Clonal Propagation

General Information

The Laboratory of Clonal Propagation was created in 1th April 2008 by a decision of Academic Council of Institute. Laboratory located in a building at Prospect. Al-Farabi 93/8 and has 3 laboratory’s and light-culture’s rooms, greenhouse30 sq.m, experimental field 200 sq.m.There are5 qualified specialists, including Candidate of Biological Sciences, PhD-student and 2M.Sc.

Head of laboratory

Valentina K. Mursaliyeva, candidate of biological science, worked as head of the laboratory from 2008 years. She graduated from the Kazakh State University, the biological faculty. In 1999 she defended her PhD’s thesis on specialty «Plant Physiology and Biochemistry». A specialist in the field of plant tissue culture, plant physiology and biochemistry. Author 85 publications, including 50 articles, 4 guidelines, 5 patents.She was awarded an honorary diploma of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The main activities

  • plant cell, tissue and organ culture
  • highly efficient techniques for micropropagation of rare and economically valuable plant species
  • study of plants flora of Kazakhstan — promising sources of biology active substances(in collaboration with botanists and phytochemists)
  • study the biological activity of secondary metabolites in test-systems in vitro
  • development biotechnologies for Herbal biological active supplements

The major achievements

  • Completed a series of works on development of efficient technologies for micropropagation of ornamental, wood, medicinal and technical plants
  • the deposited collection in vitro commercially valuable rose cultivars is supported (+40C)
  • micropropagation technique and in vitro germplasm preservation for rare crocus species of Kazakhstan
  • the phytochemical analysis on the major classes of biologically active substances for the species Stachys siboldii, Сistanche salsa, Sanguisorba officinalis, Bergenia crassifolia, Crocus alatavicus, Allochrusa gypsophiloides and the evaluation of biological activity of phytoextracts in the system of plant bioassays and in vitro tissue culture
  • technology of production of extracts tannins Sanguisorba officinalis, Bergenia crassifolia and new biological preparations for the rhizogenesis induction of difficult rooting cuttings of fruit and ornamental crops
  • standards for dietary supplements based on Stachys siboldii with antidiabetic properties
  • protocols nutrient medium for callus and suspension cultures of some endemic species of flora of Central Kazakhstan
  • innovative patents of RK (7), standard of organization (3), guidance (4), catalog of rose and 45 articles

  • Development of biotechnology cloning of coniferous and apple plants containing endogenous cytokinins and evaluation their adaptive capacity in conditions in vitro, in situ and ex situ (2006-2008)
  • Development of technology for production of biologically active food additives from Stevia rebaudiana bertoni and Stachys sieboldii, grown in the conditions of Kazakhstan (with JSC «Institute of Industrial Biotechnology», Stepnogorsk 2006-2008)

  • Development of biological products to increase the efficiency of reproduction of commercially valuable fruit and ornamental crops» (2012-2014)
  • Biotechnology of food additives based on Crocus — a natural source of food coloring and flavoring» (2012-2014);
  • Preparation the callus culture of endemic species of plants-producers of new natural compounds (2013-2014)
  • The development micropropagation technique and in vitro preservation of Crocus from flora of Kazakhstan (2013-2015)
  • The development of effective propagation technologies, germplasm preservation and restoration of degraded natural populations of endemic — Turkestan soap root (Allochrusa gypsophiloides Regel) for the rational utilization of its genetic resources in the industry (2015-2017)
