On August 12, 2026, the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology (IPBB) was visited by Dr. Peter Liebelt, Head of the Representative Office of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) in Kazakhstan and Head of the Central Asian Sustainable Innovation Bureau (CASIB). Dr. Liebelt also serves as a representative of the German Research Foundation (DFG) for cooperation with the scientific community of Central Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, the guest delivered a presentation to IPBB scientists focusing on international scientific cooperation, joint research initiatives, and opportunities for funding research projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the presentations highlighted the activities of MLU, CASIB and DFG, the development of partnerships with research organizations in Central Asia, and promising research initiatives. The KLINU and Quinoa Project projects were presented, and the AgriCA programme, aimed at promoting cooperation in agriculture and supporting young scientists, was announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A separate presentation focused on German\u2013Central Asian scientific cooperation in the field of climate and the environment. The presentation addressed climate change adaptation, water resource management, soil conservation, sustainable agriculture, and the introduction of climate-adapted technologies. Programmes and projects including INCREASE, Green Central Asia, NETSTAN (Networking for Climate, Environmental and Social Smart Cities in Central Asia) and RISMUz (Smart Sustainable Mobility in Urgench) were presented. Particular attention was paid to the practical application of research results and the development of long-term scientific partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another important part of the meeting was the presentation of DFG activities, its research funding system, and opportunities for cooperation between Central Asian scientists and German research organizations. Mechanisms for supporting international projects and the \u201cNetworking for Research in Central Asia\u201d initiative, aimed at identifying research partners and developing joint research projects, were discussed. Promising areas of cooperation included digitalization and smart technologies, sustainable development, renewable energy, and natural resource management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Peter Liebelt\u2019s presentation generated considerable interest among IPBB scientists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In turn, Dr. Peter Liebelt familiarized himself with the activities of IPBB and visited the Institute\u2019s laboratories. The heads of the laboratories introduced the guest to the Institute\u2019s scientific infrastructure, key research areas, ongoing developments, achievements, and prospects for further development, including research in genomics and digital phenotyping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the visit, Dr. Liebelt expressed his satisfaction with the meeting and highly appreciated the potential of the ongoing research and the results achieved. He also noted the significant potential for further development of scientific cooperation and the implementation of joint research initiatives, encouraging scientists to become more actively involved in preparing and submitting joint project proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting provided a platform for discussing opportunities to expand German\u2013Kazakh scientific cooperation, establish new partnerships, and implement joint international research projects.<\/p>\n\n\n
