In 2019–2020, under the order of Ecoservice-S, research was carried out at the Institute under the supervision of Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor A.A. Nurzhanova (executors: сbs Mursaliyeva V.K., Nurmangambetova A.S., Zhumasheva Zh.N., Mukhanov T.M.) within the framework of the project “Comprehensive Assessment of the State of the Environment and Public Health in the City of Kentau and Adjacent Settlements.”
The results of this research served as the basis for amendments to the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Social Protection of Citizens Affected by the Environmental Disaster in the Aral Sea Region” (Law of the RK dated June 30, 2025, No. 200-VIII). According to the amendments, the territory of Kentau city and the adjacent settlements has been classified as a zone of environmental pre-crisis condition. The amendments came into force on July 1, 2025.
