On August 26, 2025, the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology received a delegation from Tarim University (PRC) headed by the rector, Doctor of Sciences, Professor Yan Xianglin.

The delegation also included:

  • Ma Ming, Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation of Tarim University;
  • Gemingguli Muhatai, Professor of the College of Animal Science and Technology of Tarim University;
  • Luo Xiaoxia, Professor of the College of Life Sciences and Technology of Tarim University;
  • Bi Qiushuang, Translator, of the College of Foreign Languages ​​of Tarim University.

The purpose of the meeting is to develop scientific cooperation and deepen interaction between the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology (IPBB) and Tarim University. The main areas are the exchange of advanced innovative technologies, joint scientific research, and training of scientific personnel.

Particular attention is paid to creating a basis for a joint laboratory within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, with the direction “Joint Research Center for Biodiversity”.

During the visit, a meeting was held with the institute’s leadership and scientists, where the subjects of discussion were prospects for scientific cooperation, opportunities for academic exchange of young scientists and research staff, and joint projects in the fields of plant genomics, sustainable agriculture and biotechnology. In addition, the delegation got acquainted with the institute’s research laboratories and held talks on future joint projects.

During the meeting, the scientists identified key areas of joint work for further cooperation:

  • Conducting joint research on the effective use of drought-resistant plants, taking into account the experience of Tarim University in desert and semi-desert zones;
  • Joint research in the field of horse genetics;
  • Development of «green» technologies for use in arid and desert areas of Kazakhstan;
  • Exchange of young scientists and researchers to study the characteristics of agriculture in arid regions, as well as to participate in the work of joint laboratories and research centers.

Last year, from November 17th to 24th, 2024, the delegation of IPBB paid an official visit to Tarim University, China, headed by the General Director of the Institute K. Zhambakin.

The delegation included:

— Y.K. Turuspekov — Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics;

— M.Kh. Shamekova — Head of the Laboratory of Breeding and Biotechnology;

— S.I. Abugalieva — Chief Researcher of the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics;

— Z.B. Sapakhova — Leading Researcher of the Laboratory of Breeding and Biotechnology;

— Sh.S. Almerekova — Leading Researcher of the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics;

— A.Kh. Zatybekov — Leading Researcher of the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics.

Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between IPBB and Tarim University.

The purpose of the Memorandum is to strengthen cooperation and establish partnerships in the field of higher education and science. Cooperation within the framework of the Memorandum will be carried out via: implementation of joint projects, training of scientific personnel within the framework of master’s and doctoral programs, exchange of scientific information and best practices, participation in conferences, forums, consultations, seminars, symposia, round-table discussions and other events.

The President of Tarim University presented a certificate to the foreign scientific consultant.

The President of Tarim University, Professor Yan Xianglin, solemnly presented a certificate on the appointment of a foreign scientific consultant for doctoral students of Tarim University to Dr. Shamekova Malika Khabidulaevna.

At the time of writing, Dr. M.Kh. Shamekova acts as a scientific consultant for two doctoral students and one master’s student of Tarim University, providing them with methodological and research support within the framework of international academic cooperation. The appointment highlights Dr. M.Kh. Shamekova’s contribution to the development of scientific relations between the countries and strengthening the research potential of Tarim University.
