ACADEMIC AND SCIENTIFIC EXCHANGE WITH QINGDAO AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY

From August 3 to 28, 2026, Alma M. Kokhmetova, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Head of the Laboratory of Genetics and Breeding at the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology (IPBB), visited Qingdao Agricultural University, Shandong Province, People’s Republic of China, as a member of a Kazakhstani scientific delegation.

The purpose of the visit was to promote academic and scientific exchange between Kazakhstan and China, share professional expertise, and discuss prospects for further cooperation.

As part of the academic program Professor A.M. Kokhmetova gave a series of lectures to students of the Faculty of Agronomy on plant genetics and breeding, modern molecular approaches, and their application in breeding research.

A.M. Kokhmetova also participated in a professional development program focused on the prospects for the development and application of artificial intelligence in genetics, breeding, and agricultural science. The program provided an opportunity to become acquainted with modern approaches to the digitalization of research and agricultural production.

A separate part of the visit included meetings with representatives of the agricultural sector of Shandong Province. During visits to three agricultural enterprises, practical aspects of grain crop production, the application of modern agricultural technologies, and approaches to improving crop production efficiency were discussed. A.M. Kokhmetova also became acquainted with the use of robotic equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles, and intelligent systems for agricultural production management.

During working meetings with Chinese colleagues, opportunities for further collaboration in the field of plant genetics and breeding were discussed. Areas of mutually beneficial scientific cooperation were identified, including research on wheat resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses.

The visit contributed to strengthening professional contacts between Kazakhstani and Chinese specialists, exchanging scientific and practical expertise, and further developing cooperation in genetics, breeding, and modern agricultural technologies.
